Do any of you know why Real To Reel & Tinseltown are permanently closing? I can't find out WHY anywhere.

Tinseltown was my theater. I loved that place! I was just searching to see when they're going to reopen & saw that they're not. Ever!

Unfortunately, both are closed permanently.

I have no way to confirm this, but Tinseltown was probably on the ropes for awhile after The Pinnacle's theater opened. Bristol is relatively small anyway and Abingdon also has its Cinemall for people deeper in southwest VA. It was just sandwiched between a better theater at The Pinnacle and a more convenient one in Abingdon for folks up that way. Exit 7's retail and restaurant scene isn't what it was ten years ago either, and that couldn't have helped. Tri-Cities 7 at exit 66 is there for the bargain-basement crowd.

The Pinnacle is still showing a lot of old movies because many of the summer blockbusters were delayed.

I had never been to Reel to Reel. I know they were lower cost, but heard it was rundown and what they showed there wouldn't have been my thing anyway.

Real To Reel was like 40 years old & they turned it into one of those second run dollar theaters. It was really run down. Last time I was there the speakers were messed up & sounded like crap. I can understand why they're not reopening but Tinseltown was awesome. I loved Tinseltown. Now I'm pissed at Pinnacle, they didn't need to open a movie theater there in the first place.

At this point, I'm not sure the relatively inferior AMC in JC will make it. I can't see NCG in the failing Kingsport mall doing well. JC will get some superior option once things normalize if the current option fails.

I went to AMC 1 time & I didn't like it. Too expensive + assigned seating. AMC is the closest to me but I always went up to Tinseltown.

Real to Reel was great if you needed to take a bunch of kids to a family-type movie. For that, it will be missed. A $25 trip to RtR turns into $100+ at AMC.

I think the area will just be left with the Pinnacle Theater in Bristol, and *maybe* NCG might be able to hold on in Kingsport, by the end of this year.

JC will get their new theater in the next couple years, with the development being built off Boones Creek Road.

Theaters have just been shredded with this pandemic. I think they are down, but not out.

Theater chains will shrink footprints ultimately, but it may be a positive resizing of an over-saturated industry, pre-pandemic.
