Humans seem to have very different individual sensitivities to smells. In this house we have had frequent domestic "discussions" regarding odors. DW is much more sensitive to odors than I. I have known others who have made similar observations. Poster SC apparently has a very sensitive nose and I can respect his discomfort. I don't have a problem with slight odors in the downtown area in recent years but I am sure they exist for some. Eastman has made significant strides in the last quarter century to control escape of chemical odors. Accidental spills can happen regardless of utmost care and vigilance.

That was me. The smell is rather distinctive, so I know that’s what it is. I have only smelled it on clear early mornings fwiw. I am on a ridge on the Kingsport side of Fall Branch, probably not as far out as you are thinking. And after reading your second post, the odor sensitivity is probably the issue. I seem to remember being able to smell a dirty diaper from across the house and always stuck with diaper duty

Or maybe my wife was just letting me think that.

The landfill is within the Johnson City limits. It is near Tannery Knobs It does have an odor that you you can smell a mile or two away. Some nights, there is a strong solvent smell on the south side of town.
