From my perspective as a realtor, I think that assisting a prospective client who is relocating to the area to find rental housing would just be good customer service. Although most folks think otherwise, all agents are not ONLY out to close a deal. Although that is how we earn a living, we also survive off of referrals. Often those referrals come from someone that we've assisted in other ways. Yes, I will admit that there are a lot of agents out there who don't understand what customer service is all about. There are many agents to choose from in the Tri-Cities. I would suggest that you talk to a few and see who is willing to go the extra mile for you.

Sorry folks, because I'm a realtor I usually try to stay out of the real estate topics. I'm sure most of my responses are viewed in a different light because of being in real estate. However, just had to chime in on this one because I just don't think that realtors are to blame for the difficulty in finding rental property in the tri-cities. I'll step back into my neutral corner now!

I am so glad you did chime in here! You and I are both somewhat in the same industry, and you are the first Realtor I have heard say that, I am very glad to be proven wrong here.

Because it's not easy to find rental property without driving and looking for signs, I'm sure it's not something that a lot of real estate agents would want to get involved in doing on a regular basis. It would be very time consuming and quite costly at the price of gas now - with little chance of getting paid. Very few people in any profession want to work for no pay! I'm sure that's why most agents wouldn't market themselves as dealing with rental properties unless they are property managers. But hopefully they would be willing to assist their client if asked.
