This would be an impressive accomplishment for a man half this guy's age...kudos and a hearty thank you to Mr. Dosser!

Tom Dosser was 77 years old when he decided to build a new trail on Buffalo Mountain in Johnson City.

The longtime hiker and supporter of Buffalo Mountain Park had help from a few people, but for the most part this was his own endeavor — "certainly a labor of love," he said. After five years, many hundreds of man-hours and miles hiked on the new trail and "about 100,000 swings of that mattock," he completed it. It’s not a long trail — 1.9 miles from Lone Oak Road to the top of Buffalo, known as Tip Top — yet it rises 1,500 feet in that distance, meaning plenty of switchbacks.

This trail is not new. It's been there as long as I can remember (granted I'm only 19), but it's certainly not new.

As the article states, the trail took five years to complete so at least in that sense, not all of the trail is "new." However, the full 1.9-mile trail was only completed within the past two months (late Dec/early Jan), so the project is newly finished.

Some very nice pics from Lone Oak Trail & Buffalo Mountain here:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I hiked that same trail last year, as well as the year before that. The article you are referring to is talking about the maintenance and renovation of the trail after last year's fire. I can assure this trail was completed many moons ago, but now is under "renovation" as is much of the rest of Buffalo Mountain Park
