I wondered what they were doing here; saw it this morning. Looks like the tiny mall entrance just up from McDonalds on N Roan is going to become the new 'main entrance', which will force another red light onto North Roan. Ugh, great.

But anyway, I'm excited about living here right now. On my way home from work, I passed this project, came through Tennessee Street which is being upgraded to a four-lane through the Mountain Home neighborhoods onto Market St., passed by the University Plaza where they're putting up all the new signing for Earth Fare, and turned right onto Greenwood, where part of one lane is closed off as they build the entrance up onto the new softball/baseball(?) stadium on the hill at ETSU.

Lots of positive growth going on!

Yes, agree with you on all these new projects, especially Tennessee Street going through from State of Franklin to Market. That's a hugely important connector for these 2 areas and should lessen traffic near the college..

Yep. I go that way (through Tenn to get to Market) on my way to work in the mornings to avoid the Franklin/Market hospital intersection traffic. Still takes me a good 10 minutes to get to Market Street from my house (right behind Earthfare!). University traffic from 7:30-8 and 3-4:30 is fairly congested. I hope this really will ease some of it. What is really needed is *two* turn lanes turning left off Franklin onto Tennessee Street... maybe that's in the works, too.

I was in Carnegie today and saw that a Walgreens is going in there at the park; I think that's Fairview and Watauga intersection? (Maybe?) Now *that* is a surprising construction development!

Are they still planning on putting a new light at the new mall entrance? I had heard they are putting a new one in to connect with the old Nascar Cafe building (which I heard is slated to become either a Mellow Mushroom or a T.G.I. Fridays. Don't know how true that is, but that's the rumor anyway.).

Dunno about Mellow Mushroom. Maybe but they generally seem to build in more pedestrian friendly, patio-dining type areas. I would love to see them go in on the campus perimetre, Walnutish area?

If they're gonna put a red light in, they're way late with it. The news story said after Christmas... well, yeah, it's after Christmas all right.

I didn't think that sounded like a place they would put a mellow mushroom, but my friend insisted that Johnson City was supposed to get one. TGI Friday's seems more likely

Oh no... I hope it dont cause too much confusion and delay. I dont live in JC, but get down there from time to time and have for the past several years. Sometimes I will occasionally still find some of the traffic patterns confusing.

I remember back in the mid 1980s when I was a kid and we would drive through Johnson City when going to visit my uncle in Asheville (who now lives in Richmond). I remember when that was a 2-lane most of the way between Bristol and Johnson City. I remember the construction around where the "motor mile" is now in north Johnson City. It was 2-lane @ the time and was being changed to a 4-lane. I remember us being in my grandmothers 1971 Lincoln Continental on that terrible looking road and never even feeling the bumps in the road. I remember us getting gas at one of those gas stations on the right and there being a big swag in the road we had to go across. I think that was in 1984 and I could not have been no more than 8 years old. Not sure how I remember all of that.

Progress.

Speaking of traffic lights, I have noticed in Bristol that they are placing the old bulbs in the traffic lights with the new LED bulbs (or whatever they are). They are brighter and change faster between intervals. They have been phasing them in over the past couple of years (at the big intersections), but seems like the past two weeks they have even been on the secondary roads with a vengeance replacing the old bulbs.

I doubt it will cause any confusion, but it will definitely cause some delay. At certain times traffic there in the "Mall Valley" is really bad for this area, especially heading up the hill towards Princeton Road. All we need is another red light.
