Okay guys, I'm looking for a shop that sells hammered dulcimers in east TN. All my music buddies have no suggestions and I can't find anything, either. Silver Chords in Jonesborough (which was great, sold dulcimers, bowed psalteries, everything else) has closed, it seems... I did find an online reference to 'Noteworthy Instruments' on Windsor Ave in Bristol that sells dulcimers, supposedly. Will give them a call.

In the meantime, does anyone else have *any* sources for hammered dulcimers around here? I'll even drive over to Asheville to check out instruments, I'm just not familiar with music shops there. Don't really want to have to go do the whole Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg thing just to get a hammered dulcimer!

There is a dulcimer shop towards Townsend (from Maryville on 321). Let me see if I can find the info on it.

Ok, found it. This place is about 10 minutes from me. I've never been inside.

Have you checked with Morrell Music in down town JC? I have been in there several times for my sons guitar stuff and they have ALL kinds of instruments. I believe I saw some dulcimers. But I am not sure what a "hammered" one is

Hm, I've been in Morrell (both in JC and Bristol) many times. Never saw a hammered dulcimer, but I'll give them a call. Mouse, hammered dulcimers resemble harp-ish instruments more than the mountain/Appalachian dulcimer, which is more elongated and played, in theory, more like a guitar or other instrument with a neck.

Thanks for the info, SMG. Will give them a call, from the site though it looks like they sell mountain dulcimers only (along with ban-jammers, oddly of which I've heard before, and bowed psalteries).

OK, I saw the mountain type dulcimers at Morrell. Guess I have never heard of the hammered dulcimer before, sorry. But it sounds interesting! Let us know if you find one. Now I am curious.
