I used to love to go to the downtown Bristol parade on Saturday nights, but over the past few years, they now have it on Saturday mornings and I dont know why. Whats worse I always have to work on Saturday AM's, so I never get to go anymore.

I think the night is so much better... with the lights shining bright and the night seems to bring out the Christmas moods.

Someone said it was a safety issue, but I do not ever recall any accidents occuring at a night parade around here.

I know the Abingdon parade is tonight @ 7, but I do not get off until 6:30 and would have to rush up there, so I probably will not go.

It is also odd, I think, that both Kingsport and Bristol have their parades on the same day.

Oh was that the Christmas parade? I saw it setting up on my way to work, but someone told me that was the Veterans Day parade and the Christmas parade was sometime in December... ??

If that was the Christmas parade, then Bristols parade is getting sorrier and sorrier, because that parade was not all that large and not grand like I remember the night parades being like they were back in the 80s and 90s.

I did hear something on the news, believe it was channel 11, something about Bristol limiting the number of entries in the parade this year, but I did not catch the why.

I'll trade you. Our Oak Ridge Christmas parade is at night this year instead of in the morning like last year plus, it's about 2 weeks later. By the time the parade ends it will probably be 15 degrees colder than last year (fine for marchers, not so fine for people standing still and watching) and the photos will all be dark and lights and not much fun to look at afterwards.

Default Bristol Christmas Parade

I watched the Bristol parade from Nashville this morning, through a streaming web cam on State Street. Didn't have any sound, but it was cool to be able to see the parade.
It looked like there was not much of a turnout, but the weather, also looked like it might have been a little rain at the time.
There was someone else watching through the same camera, as it is controllable over the internet, and they kept moving it around.
Did get to see Santa Claus though.
Watching it made me homesick for my good old days living in that area.
Have a great weekend!

Yes, the parade was this morning, which I discovered when I was re-routed on my way to work.

Once again, I missed it, because I always work on Saturday mornings. Also, I do not think they advertise the parade enough. I did not even know it was going on.

It wasnt rain, but it was very overcast and COLD! It was only in the mid 20s this morning and by 2pm, it was in the 30s (still well below average) and it started snowing. It didnt stick, but the roads were wet and when the sun went down, almost every road in Bristol was covered with black ice. I slid all over coming home on all but major streets. The Bristol bridge was horrible - 20 accidents (one of which was my aunt) occured this evening on it before the police finally closed it after seeing several more accidents occur while filling out my aunts paperwork. He called in and said enough was enough and he was closing it. Very good call!

Glad you didn't have any mishaps, but sorry about your aunt!

We had black ice one night, a few years ago, in Nashville . I drive a front- wheel drive Saturn, which did real well until I exited the interstate, drove to the top of the ramp and ran a stop sign into the middle of a four lane road. I did not know I was driving on black ice until I tried to stop. Fortunately, the crossroad was empty, so I didn't cause an accident. It was weird, putting on the brakes, but kept right on going straight through the stop sign. Glad there wasn't any police around.
Maybe all the cars in the ditches along the interstate should have been my first clue. We get accidents all over town when it just sprinkles and the temperatures are in the 90's.
