I'm by no way an expert on education or retraining benefits, but from the very little I've seen TN does a good job of retraining and helping people get an education.

The TN lottery gives a 1 yr TN resident $2000 toward education (I believe)

AB&T - Alliance for business and training - will help pay for books, tuition, etc. I'm in the process of trying to apply for this, half of my nursing class is going to school this way.

WA county TN high school students get 2 years of free education at Northeast State Comm College, (so I've heard, NOT 100% sure, but I'm hoping it's true for my 16 yo).

There should be other programs, what have you all heard????

There are many schools, I go to Tenn Tech (many locations state wide) it's pretty cheap, I pay out of pocket with books about $300 per month for an LPN diploma. Waiting lists for Nursing schools is much lower or non-existent compared to other states too.

ETSU, Northeast state, King College, etc, etc Lots of ways to advance here that don't cost a ton. Good luck to all that want to go to school and take advantage of what TN has to offer.

Tony in TN

There are also adult education classes at the area high schools that are very successful. At the doctors' office where I work, we've hired some of the certified medical assistants graduating from these programs and have been pretty satisfied. Adult Education - Johnson City, Washington County, and Unicoi County (http://www.jcschools.org/adulteducation/ - broken link)

I"m currently attending Northeast State studying for RN. I've been very satisfied thus far although I'm very early in the program. I have previously attended ETSU and Colorado Mtn college
