Some buddies and I are gathering for a weekend get-away at the end of March and I thought I'd come here to ask for suggestions/ideas. I live in SC, a couple of them live in NC and a few more live in OH/WV. Some of them aren't into the camping/roughing it environment so we're looking for a cabin to rent. Last year we went up to Danbury, NC and got a cabin there at Hanging Rock State Park for some hiking and relaxing. It was a good time and the price was nice (for 6 of us the price of the cabin came out to $35/each for both nights).

Roan Mountain State Park (Roan Mountain, TN) is one possibility. Two-bedroom cabins in March are $80/night Fri. & Sat. You can hike on the Appalachian Trail along the Roan balds for some of the best mountain views anywhere in the eastern US. The drive time from Winston-Salem is approx. 2 hours 15 minutes.
I'd also suggest looking at SW Virginia, specifically the cabins at
Hungry Mother State Park (outside Marion). Hungry Mother has a very nice lake and good hiking trails. The lake is currently being dredged but that work should be finished before the end of March. Two-bedroom cabins in March are $84/night and the drive time from Winston-Salem is approx. 1 hour 50 minutes.
