I've considered moving to the area of Chuckey and wanted to find out it is there? I've only been there to visit for events, etc. and wonder if I would enjoy actually residing there.

I've driven through Chuckey a couple of times, but I don't remember seeing it.

I used to live sort of in Afton (more Chestnut Ridge, but I doubt anyone here would know that name), just a few miles from Chuckey. It's true-blue east TN at its culturally-preserved finest. (And take that how you will.) If you like some good down home east TN livin' then you'll fit in just fine. Chuckey is big enough that you won't be "perceived as an outsider" but still a small community. Just don't look for a lot of social gatherings geared towards meeting new people as everyone in Chuckey knows everyone else, and they have for generations.

A big plus is, if you like bluegrass music, the Rheatown store (the 11-E is the dividing line between Rheatown and Chuckey, more or less) has Saturday night jam sessions.

And you're about five minutes away from Walmart in Greeneville, and, on a good day, 20-25 minutes from Johnson City. So it's a very strategic location.

My girlfriend and I have rented a home in Afton and will be moving down at the end of May. I'm a Bluegrass musician writing a "How-to Banjo Book" and look forward to meeting and pickin' with lots of Tennessee native banjoists. From all the research I've done, I think we're moving to the right place because of Rheatown and Newport and other locations nearby that have Bluegrass musicians in abundance.
I hope we're well received, because we sure want to make friends with lots of pickers.
