Macado&#39s to Open in Mid-May | TriCities (http://www.tricities.com/tri/news/local/article/macados_to_open_in_mid-may/21524/ - broken link)

Macados is scheduled to open 5-20-09 in the old Sears building in Bristol. The Macados I've been to in Princeton, WV was excellent for food and a quality atmosphere. It's a great place for lunch or a relaxed evening out.

Hopefully then next Macados openning will be in JC - either downtown or in the vacated Ruby Tuesdays in the Mall.

Macados (pronounced "mak a doos") is a upscale sandwich place with other items. Are you thinking of the Japanese place in JC with a similarly spelled name (Makato).

Link to their menu: http://www.macados.net/TAKEOUT3.pdf (broken link)

Yeah, I would get those confused as well. I remember eating at the Japanese restaurant in JC a few years ago... I always thought they were always busy... perhaps they were and it was poorly managed and thats why they went under?

Makato's, wasn't that near current day Earth Fare? The area around the university is always buzzing, just drop by the mexican restaurant at Kroger or Ruby Tuesday at lunch hour or Saturday afternoon.

I would have to agree that the El Torito near the university is one of the better Mexican restaurants in the JC area...but compared to the other three I have visited that's not saying much. They were all really bad. There is a little Mexican pasteria on Market St. {I think that's correct} Just down from Jane's Lunch Box. It's a carry out but the food is the real deal.
One question this northerner wonders is why aren't there any real, go in, sit down and order, chinese restaurants down here? They're all take out or [blecch!], buffet style, luke warm food of questionable vintage. The best and only real Thai food I have found so far is Tomy Thai in Kingsport. It was pretty good. Stir Fry is nice and they have a few Thai items but I don't consider them a real Thai restaurant.
I've been meaning to go eat at Yong Asian House in Gray near the nice, big, Food City after looking at their menu. Looks pretty authentic.

Very little good Asian here, because probably there are few Asians here? haha. Same with Indian.

El Torito is decent. Amigo's is good, especially the one beside Natural Foods Market/Old Navy.

And yes, the one on Market Street (yellow bldg) is A-MAY-ZING.

Some of the best Chinese food I've had was at a place in Maryland that was run by an Indian family (believe it or not...), so really, all it takes is good recipes and a good cook to make them and you will never know the difference!

Wok and Hibachi in JC has some real, authentic Asian food. The family that owns it is Malaysian, and uses family recipes. Their hot pots especially are very good. Now they do have sweet and sour chicken, and teriyaki hibachi chicken that is popular, but if you really check out their menu, you will find several authentic dishes as well.

Here's an article from GoTriCities.com that talks about the restaurant - GoTricities.com > Wok & Hibachi: A flair for the exotic (http://www.gotricities.com/content/article.dna?idnumber=060315121942 - broken link)

Have you tried LaCampina Mexican Grill in Piney Flats? I've been there a few times and have never been dissapointed in the food or service. They are located @ 5661 Hwy 11e. It's in the shopping center on the right about 1/2 mile past the second light going toward Bristol JC.
