I know I'm not usually one to start a thread that's a rant. However now that I'm only 20 days away from heading to Tennessee I've been planning more and more. I've been on AAA as I'm a member and hotels that I paid $45.00 a night for last October are now going for $90-130 a night. What's with the jump? Any suggestions for places? I stayed in Bristol last year and would like to stay in JC this year or even Boone.

Hey Josh,

I don't know about JC but Boone is usually more expensive overall. Summer is their season, the college is graduating, and during the year there are many games at the college.

I think you should get a better rate in JC or maybe Elizabethton. I have used this coupon book in the past and it might help you. You can usually pick them up on the road when you get into the state or maybe they allow you to print the coupon. Good luck. There were some good coupons in JC.

I had trouble with the link. Try www.roomsaver.com and do a search in JC.

See you soon and have a safe trip.

Lisa

I found a few places...

Super 8 of Erwin, Tennessee
---------------------
Ramada Limited
2606 N. Roan St.
Johnson City, TN
---------------------
Sleep Inn & Suites
2020 Franklin Terrace Ct
Johnson City, TN

I think these are all some decent deals as far as rates. Erwin is what 20 minutes from JC?

I know someone that stays twice a week at the Super 8 you mentioned. They have been staying there for business for a long time so I guess it is an a-ok place.

Josh, the higher rates may have something to do with the drag races being held at Bristol's Thunder Valley May 15-17. Those races typically draw about 40,000 fans.

FWIW, I just checked Hotels.com and saw that Jameson Inn in JC would run you $77 a night (including taxes/service fees) for a king-size bed. Two other possibilities outside JC: Super 8 in Erwin at $58 a night and Super 8 in Kingsport at $65 for a king, $60 for a double. Both of the Super 8s get favorable reviews.

Well, Josh, you beat me to it! I didn't refresh the page while I was researching, but I see you found the Erwin Super 8. You'd be right at the interstate there so it'd be just a 15-min. drive to downtown JC. IMO, that'd be a good choice.

The Sleep Inn is in a very great location. I also know a girl that stays there frequently (had to doublecheck location to be sure) and she likes it.

The Sleep Inn on Franklin Terrace is great. You're right there at Cheddars, Barnes and Noble and a slew of other stuff, minutes to South SoF (ETSU) and minutes to the mall. And right off I-26.
