I've only been here 2 weeks and have been to La Carreta 3 times for lunch. Very cheap and by far the best mexican I've had!

Where is Red Rooster and what do they serve? I've lived in Bristol for 30 years and never knew the first thing about it.

It's on HWY 126 near that go cart track, but the opposite side of the road. I was underwhelmed by the food. I had a $7 grilled chicken sandwich, which I would say was OK. The bread was good, but otherwise the sandwich was very bland. Probably very very healthy though because I really didn't taste any butter, salt, or other seasoning. It is a literal "mom & pop", interestingly decorated (rooster theme), and seems like a decent place for older adults to get together and socialize.

Ohh, and they do not take Discover.

I tried one of the new "Mexican" places here in JC, and was VERY disappointed. It was a weird combo of Border Mex, Tex Mex and CA Mex. Very generic. I'm finding most of the Mexican restaurants in the area to be decidedly 'border" oriented. Having lived 20 years in Texas, I do have a Tex-Mex bias, but we did have several authentic "interior" Mexican spots, as well. BTW, they don't serve many burritos in Tex-Mex - that's more CA Mex. My parents don't know Mexican food, so it is difficult to introduce them to it here. "Interior" Mexican would really surprise a lot of people.

Ripshin, I don't think you're going to find any 'authentic' Mexican at the types of restaurants named El Sombrero - just a tip. Try Cancún (in Greeneville) or the tiendas - La Perla or La Tortilleria Familiar.

Over the years several Mexican families lived with mine, when I lived at home. The food was somewhat different than Mexican restaurants here, but mostly in that the restaurants way overuse beans and cheese, and use less exotic meats. (I do love some goat tacos and cow tongue!) However, I have had other interior Mexican that is very different - many more vegetables and use of seafoods.

Didn't get your point. I wasn't looking at names, but menus. There are plenty of Mexicans in East TN, so it's legitimate to expect something good.

Yes, Little Italy has some awesome pizzas and salads! Everyone I know loves it... Bellas has amazing pasta and subs! I personally love Mad Greek too... super calzones and pizzas, but I am on a strict diet now and cant eat that anymore for now... maybe later in moderation.
