Scratch Bakery - you cannot go wrong with fresh made bread in a handful of varieties each weekend. Good people, good bread, and apparently a fairly chill college hangout place for some people. Full loaves are around 5$ iirc and are WELL worth it. You can get the loaf as is or they can slice it for you.

They're only open on like fri/sat/sun I think (mebbe its thu/fri/sat i'm not 100% as I always go on sat) and i believe they open in the early afternoon sometime. Cash only so be prepared for that when you go.

I think it's Fri-Sun. You can also get some of their products through Johnson City Room Service and I believe Earth Fare carries their breads on the weekends. I agree it's one of Johnson City's finest.

I am in for an interesting evening. I have been to a Hooters before, but never the one in JC. My baby turns 19 today...guess where he wants his Dad and I to take him and 5 of his buddies for dinner.....of course we are there to pay the check....but I believe we are in for one interesting evening. I hope at least the wings are still as good as I remember....y'all pray for me ok LOL!

Nanny`s Restaurant going up Stoney Creek in elizabethton has gt great homestyle food on the weekends..and VERY reasonably priced...great cornbread salad...Shirleys up around the lake is good too. For the best breakfast around..ya need to try the Copper Kettle in Hampton. Really good food and good service. For the best sweet tea ya gotta go to Barkers up Stoney Creek, grab a burger while you`re there too. There`s a little place on 19E heading towards Elizabethton from Bluff City on the left before you get to the monument place...can`t remember what it`s called, but, they have got the best burgers around. They`re huge...and freshly made. just awesome. Don`t forget Lakeshore Restaurant during the season...ask for the Crawfish..{its not on the menu}..fantastic!! The view is nice too.

I survived the night! LOL! It was a fun time for all, the kids had a blast, the food was pretty good, the wings were tasty but a bit to much breading for me, but I am picky about wings. The service was very good even for a large group, everything came out correct and in a reasonable time frame. They were supper nice with my son as it was his birthday and made it a good time. He of course thinks it was his best birthday ever hahahah. So all in all, I'll say that Hooters is a good place to go for a good fun dinner.

Not for nothing, but posts that say "best" of anything can't be taken seriously. Maybe "best I've had" or "best in the area imo" but to suggest that any one place or food type is the "best" is just silly unless you have pretty much tried all the "best" in the world...and it's a big world.

Oh, and for a good loaf of bread I enjoy scratch also...but do it yourself.

6.5-7 cups of flour
3 cups of water
2 tbs of yeast
1.5 tbs of salt

just throw it all in a big bowl, mix it up, and leave it on the counter to rise for a couple of hours. throw it in any pan (or several pans) of any shape or size as long as they can be used in the oven. bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. bread doesn't get any easier.

Anyone tried Beasley's Southern Bistro?

Beasley's Southern Bistro (http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Ads/PrintAds/Ad_BeasleysSouthernBistro.php - broken link)

It's in the Burlington Mall. Looks pretty darn good, but then I'm pretty darn hungry right now. Maybe I'll head over one of these days and sample.
