Does anyone know of any good hiking-camping-backpacking clubs in the area. I love to hike but it is really hard to find people to go with. I am aware of eastman club but I believe you have to be eastman employee to be able to join it.
thanks in advance

We like to do hikes, too. Just found Steele Creek Park and had a nice bike ride. It's not all that long, but long enough for a solid hour or so on the paths. What a beautiful park!

There are several hiking groups I am aware of in the area. Try jchiker.org, Oldtimershiking.org Johnson City Parks and Rec offer hiking information for anyone, You can also check with the National Park Service Ranger Office in Greeneville (638-8731). There is an Applachian hiking website, but I can't remember it. When all else fails, try seaching for hiking clubs in Mid Appalachian area. Good luck

A group that organizes weekly day hikes (mostly Saturdays) is the Johnson County Trails Association, Johnson County Trails Association - Area Information. Most of these hikes are in Johnson and Carter Counties in Tennessee and some in neighboring counties of Virginia and North Carolina. These hikes are apparently open to all comers and upcoming hikes are posted in the county weekly newspaper, The Tomahawk, but I have been unable to find these in their "on-line" edition, .The Tomahawk - News, Sports, Entertainment - Mountain City, Tennessee
