Essentials:

Family of 5. Looking for a 3 or 4 bedroom {or 3 bd w/ office or finished basement} 2 bath in a walkable area for under $155k {would LOVE to stay under $140k but realize that's usually not feesible anymore}

We homeschool so neighborhood schools aren't a current issue but would like to be in a solid district as far as high school academics and special needs support services for high school.

No HOA. The husband is dead set against them after watching his brother have issue after issue with his. Says if he wanted someone to tell him what color he could or couldn't paint his shutters, how tall and what wood his privacy fence could be, how many friends he could have over and what kind of car he was allowed to drive, and having fits because the grass was an inch tall instead of 1/2 an inch, he'd have stayed in the Army and lived in post housing.

Agree with hiknapster, and yes living with HOA, rules can sometimes be a turn off or burden. Many good choices for your selection and we have many areas that you can find what your looking for, in your price range.

Thanks I fell in srs. lust with this house 511 Taylor Rd., Knoxvill, TN, 37920 - MLS #723850 - Single Family Home real estate - REALTOR.com® this morning. It's out of our price range but is a pretty apt example of what I'm looking for as far as space and layout. And the garage would make a beautiful massage studio as well, which doesn't hurt. How often do houses like it come on the market in my price range?

Hmm i think thats near the Island Home area in South Knox...If so thats a great area to be looking for a house if you're into the older style houses like i am ...Also check out the North Hills neighborhood in North Knox...There might be a house or two there that would fit your price range

A 5 Bedroom just went on the market down the street from me. 2309 Washington Ave. $24,500. I shouldn't tell you because I'm looking at it as an investment oportunity as a rental. It looks like its in really good shape. The prices around here are way low because there are a ton of foreclosures within my 2 block area. Its at least worth a look.

also, a good tool for finding your perfect home is
Map Search

It is an interactive mls for the area, and is way easier to use than looking through a realtor's website

FYI: this area is in Parkridge, a possible gentrification area. So far, the jury is out, but that is why the price is so low. I'm not sure if there are other issues, as well. Parkridge is a good investment area but it is certainly not for everyone.

Don't be fooled by the asking price. With the market being uncertain, many realtors are advising the sellers pad their asking prices to adjust for the expected lowball offers. If you like it, at least keep it in your queue and try making an offer you can afford. You might be surprised
