Hi everyone-
Hubby just retired with 20 years in Air Force, and was recruited by a huge DOD company here in Florida (we just moved here a few months ago). I hate it here (sorry if I offend), but am trying to be supportive newlywed wife
I am a Medical Assistant and have not been able to find work here
His job is going great, and don't get me wrong I am VERY grateful considering the economy. I have always longed to live near mountains, preferably NC/VA (we lived in VA for 2 yrs before here and I am from NC but have lived in NJ, NC, VA). I always thought Charlotte or Asheville would be nice but sounds like Asheville is expensive and small and Charlotte big but no mountains (I have visited). Are there any DOD/Defense Contractor jobs in the Knoxville area? Any other mountain areas?

There are not a lot of Florida fans on this forum. I am a former resident and it is not my favorite place, either.
The answer to your questions is yes and yes.
We have the national laboratory in Oak Ridge and various other positions for DOD there.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Oak Ridge is next to west Knoxville and the Cumberland mountains and of course it is not that far to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
Also, there are a lot of hospitals in the area including Mercy (various locations), Fort Sanders, Park West, Children's and UT Medical Center.

I did look at their site but didn't see anything in National Security category for hubby. Should I resign myself to the fact that Charlotte is the furthest west that there are jobs for us? It's not the mountains, though
Hubby thinks Tenn is too far from Eastern NC where we will visit family. Do you think that's true? Any other larger places near mountains you can recommend?

I am a Medical Assistant and have not been able to find work here 
His job is going great, and don't get me wrong I am VERY grateful considering the economy. I have always longed to live near mountains, preferably NC/VA (we lived in VA for 2 yrs before here and I am from NC but have lived in NJ, NC, VA). I always thought Charlotte or Asheville would be nice but sounds like Asheville is expensive and small and Charlotte big but no mountains (I have visited). Are there any DOD/Defense Contractor jobs in the Knoxville area? Any other mountain areas?
Hubby thinks Tenn is too far from Eastern NC where we will visit family. Do you think that's true? Any other larger places near mountains you can recommend?
