Are the leaves changing? When are they expected to peak. I looked at reports and they say slight color. I'd like to hear it from the locals, specifically Gatlinburg.

I just had to see what a fliage was and why no one answered. LOL guessing it was a typo.

There's already a thread up with reports on foliage color in TN that's been updated recently here on City Data.

I looked up the reports and it seems next week will be decent. By the way, it was a typo. Keep us up to date.

Last two weeks of the month look good. It starts or has started at the higher elevations and works its way down.

Depends on your elevation. Peak should be coming soon in the mountains. The valley is usually late Oct/early November. The city is slightly later than outlying areas, usually early Nov.

I was in Cades Cove yesterday (Tuesday 10/12). The color change this year, in my opinion, is a week earlier than last year. I was actually shocked as I visited Cades Cove in 2009 on October 16, 24 and 30. On October 16 last year almost everything in the loop was still green. Last year, the road that leads into the loop was most vibrant yellows and golds on October 24. On October 12 of this year, those same trees on that road that leads to the loop, many of those trees are gold/yellow already. There is less color in the loop. I would say that next week would be a good time to go there. Normally, I'd say to visit Cade Cove around the weekend of the 24th but this year, I'm thinking, based on what I saw yesterday, the 17th - 20th might be better.

It was awful for photography yesterday morning because it was way too sunny and bright for my liking and I went later in the morning than I usually go so please excuse the quality of these pics. The first is the road into the loop, the second is the loop and the third is the mountains. You can see from the last one the mountains still look mostly green.
