Are there any hotels in the Fountain City Area? Interested in looking at homes in the area for relocation. Is the Fountain Cit area a "nice" neighborhood? Looking for homes in the 100k max range. Is this a possibility for this area or what other neighborhoods? I am interested in the west knoxville area. Appreciate any feedback.

It's certainly a nice area, but that price range may be a stretch, and if that's your max for west Knoxville I doubt you're going to have much luck at all there, though northwest Knoxville around Pleasant Ridge/Norwood could be a possibility.

There's tons of information on this forum regarding Fountain City, probably a lot of it written by me, since I live here. There's also some photos on the Knoxville pic thread that I posted and I believe that JMT may have posted some as well. Run a search a ye shall find.

It's mostly older homes, with a sweet duck pond and a very nice, well-established playground. Broadway runs through it and there can be some traffic at rush hour, but it moves along. I live closer to I-75 so I have the best of all worlds. My daughter attends Sterchi, a wonderful elementary school, and plans to go to Gresham Middle next year.

We are very happy here. I got a lot of house for the money, and even though I bought three years ago we've actually seen appreciation. It's a very unpretentious place. The majority of people are not transplants. I am, but I prefer to hang with the locals.

I'd like to echo what Hiknapster said.

In addition, Fountain City has some of Knoxville's best and most beloved locally-owned restaurants (in particular Louis's, the Creamery, and Litton's). There is fierce pride among the locals, so much so that they routinely say they live in Fountain City, not Knoxville, even though Fountain City is part of Knoxville.

I almost bought a home in Fountain City last month; I currently live just a couple of miles south of FC in North Knoxville. It's a wonderful part of town. Gresham Middle School is in a stately, old (100+ years) building, and Fountain City residents are also immensely proud of their high school, Central. There is an abundance of community support for their schools.

Driving around the older, established neighborhoods in Fountain City is one of my favorite pastimes. There are some gorgeous older homes as well as some cute little bungalows and cottages. Yet there is nothing pretentious about Fountain City at all. It's a part of town with people of just about every socio-economic background and just about every race, and everyone seems to get along just fine. I attend church there, and if the people in my church are representative of those who live in Fountain City, then anyone would feel welcomed there. I think Fountain City is one of Knoxville's best kept secrets.
