We have a place in Kodak near Douglas Dam and are planning to move there full time in May. Certainly have some concerns about the winters and how the roads are......do you get out and about or were you unable to get around this past year with the bad snows. We are up on a hill so it's going to be interesting......thanks!

Nothing has changed. Our winter was horrendous in Southern terms. In Northern terms it wasn't even worth batting an eyelash at. At the end of the day, 12 inches in one winter season is nothing. Where I come from they average almost 70 inches a winter. It's simply nothing to be worried about because it's something that is not a common occurrence, like we've said before...

Bad snows? Kodak would get more snow than most of Knox County but it wouldn't be unmanageable, assuming you have a four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle, since you live on a hill. Snow in this area doesn't normally stay around long, so it shouldn't be a real problem, even in Kodak. Kodak isn't the Yukon.

You shouldn't be stranded for days, but most likely your road will not get salted or plowed, and the amount of trees (shade) will determine how long it takes for the snow/ice to melt. The closer you are to 139 and 66, the better. If you're desperate to get out, stock up on beet juice, table salt and cat litter and along with 4-wheel drive I think you can do it.

IMO, you won't need a 4-wheel drive and your lives will not be impacted much at all by snow. You'll be about 8 miles north of Sevierville and at approximately the same elevation of 900'. Here's a related thread from 3 years ago: //www.city-data.com/forum/tenne...vierville.html

Also consider that with just 12.3" of snow this past winter, Knoxville had its snowiest winter in 15 years.

And that 12.3 inches of snow, recorded in Blount County, not Knox, was also in the top twenty years for snowfall since records have been kept, dating back to the middle 1870s.

I live in Kodak....the winter wasn't too hateful, though we did get stuck one time but that was because of our driveway.
If you frequently use 139 (Douglas Dam Rd.) you will be fine. There is plenty of traffic that uses it. The roads here aren't too hilly, but use caution as they are quite twisty in many spots.

Welcome to the area! If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me anytime!
