I've convinced my fiance that it would be much smarter to rent for a year, than to buy a home being completely unfamiliar with the areas we're looking at. Are there specific publications available in hard copy or online, that are geared solely toward the rental market? If so, could somebody please steer me in the right direction, as I'm having a difficult time finding anything in my google searches.

I know you made the right decision. No one should take three years, like me, but a year is enough time to find an area that feels right for you. The internet, a real estate agent and our opinions only go so far.

Of course there is always our local paper, which is something you'll want to read on a regular basis, anyway. Before we moved I regularly perused the local papers of every area under consideration. It speaks volumes about the area. Just ignore the goofball comments at the end of the articles. We have the worst group of immature hecklers in that paper, to the point where staff have toyed with the idea of not allowing comments. It's odd because we have some of the nicest citizens on earth.
