I'm looking to move around the Blount, Sweetwater area and I heard that they are considered "redneck" areas and wondering if it is true or not. I did some research myself and I saw that their is a white supremacy meeting in Sweetwater coming up. Is their a major race issue in that area, because I don't want to deal with any of that redneck mentality.

Sweetwater isn't in Blount county, it's in Monroe and technically part of Loudon. If you don't want the "redneck" mentality you might want to keep looking. East TN is full of the "redneck mentality" and many are quite proud of it. It's not looked down upon but flaunted as a way to separate from outsiders. They do have clan meetings and rallys in many places in eTN.

I am a proud redneck; from a long line of rednecks. I live in Blount County, TN, USA. There probably is another area in our wonderful country that might suit you better than here if you want to avoid rednecks. We are full of Bubba's and Bubbette's around here. We've got non-redneck also; and it is a mix that -for the most part- exists peacefully together. Best of Luck to you.

Off to the Saturday Morning Farmers Market and Neighborly Truck Ogling.

Will you please explain to me what is wrong with rednecks? Are you saying that rednecks are racist? If that's the case, then you are being as narrow-minded as you claim rednecks to be.

There are white supremacy meetings all over the country and not just in East Tennessee. Jesse Jackson once said that Chicago is the most racist city in the country.

So if you have a problem living around people who love NASCAR, who prefer beer to wine spritzers, who wouldn't have a clue how to order something at Starbucks, who go to church and teach manners to their kids, who listen to country music and proudly support our troops, then you might want to keep looking and move somewhere else.

OK everyone, take it easy please.
To the OP, you happen to be looking in an area of TN that is more of what you don't want than what you do. I have lived in East TN for over 10 years now and have NEVER seen a supremacy meeting. I have never heard of a hate crime, actually the one I recall in North Knoxville a while back was black men attacking a white couple, but I think it had nothing to do with color. I have seen just about every nationality living comfortably here. Yes, this IS the country, not NYC. There are a lot of farms and workers on those farms. You will also see golf courses next to those farms. There are the very poor and there are the very rich and all points in between. There are jacked up pick-up trucks with no tail gates and huge tires with the rebel flag flying out the back. There are hummers, Audi's, Jags and Vipers too. You can see a 40 year old single wide mobile homes with the insulation hanging out of the bottom and a newly constructed 3,500 sq foot mcmansion with the in ground pool right next to each other. You have Baptists, Methodist, Mormons, Jewish, Catholic, Buddhists and Atheists all living in the same towns and getting along just fine. However you WILL see the nativity scenes during Christmas time (you won't here it referred to as the "winter holiday") and at Easter, you will see crosses draped with purple just about everywhere you go.
This is an example of what you will find in TN. If you don't want to see or be around a certain "type" of person that will offend your senses in TN, than the other folks that responded to you are correct, TN might not be the place for you.
Personally I believe the OP is a troll that just wants to stir things up and this thread should probably be deleted, but on the other hand, everyone should know what they are getting into if they plan on moving to TN. The one thing I have noticed that in general, intolerance is not really tolerated in East TN. I say east only because that is the area I know most and can not speak for central and west TN areas.

Knoxville, Nashville, Chattanooga, Johnson City, Oak Ridge, Sweetwater and just about all points in between are the same as far as what you are asking. Just the fact that you "hate" is a good indicator that you would not be happy in TN, the South, the Bible belt. Sorry, but no one is going to change it for you or anyone else. Pride and integrity run through the very deep roots round these parts. Then again, Unicoi sounds like a place you might want to try?

Well if the person is not a troll at least they asked before they moved in and then found out they didn't like it. I don't think people should jump all over anyone who is simply looking for answers.

And why does everyone always seem to answer with questions of the questions asked instead of just answering them? The person stated they didn't want to be around "redneck mentality" just leave it at that period. No need for you to question why they don't like rednecks. You know it's only going to open up a can of worms.

Either way Troll or no Troll you got our answers.
