I have a 1950's vintage dress that needs some TLC! I need the sleeves adjusted a touch and a new zipper put in and a repair done to the sash.
Can anyone recommend somewhere that isnt going to cost me an arm and a leg?

Drop in or call the people at the following sewing store. They could probably give you a lead on a local seamstress with the knowledge to do that kind of alterations.

European Alterations. Corner of Northshore and Kingston Pike. I moved here from Atlanta a few years ago and after much trial and mostly error, found European Alterations. He does top notch work, and I wouldn't trust anybody else with my complicated jobs.

There is a good place at the corner of Magnolia and Spruce St. They are very reasonably priced as well

I know this thread is really old, but hopefully you'll see this...

I'm looking for a good alterations place. Right now, I just need a simple hem on two skirts, but since I'm under 5" I know I'll need a good one in the future. I've seen a lot of positive reviews about the quality of European Alterations, but what about their prices? Is there any way you could give me a basic estimate or price range so I know what I'm looking at?

Thanks in advance

Sharon Smith does alterations out of her home. All my friends and I have used her for bridesmaid dresses, t-shirt quilts, and upholstery. Her prices and quality of work can't be beat...

Just a warning though, her house smells a bit.

I have Prestige Cleaners do odds and ends for me as needed, depending on whether I feel like fooling with it or not. I don't think they are particularly inexpensive, though. Good thing about them is they have great customer service and if you don't like something you have recourse. They have always set things right for me and friends and co-workers, too.
