We are traveling from Chicago, IL this weekend to see some homes in Morristown. My husband is retiring soon and I will continue to work in the medical/admin field. I understand there are some colleges in Morristown, not sure which ones have what for specialties but we are excited for the free tuition for TN high school graduates. Does anyone know someone who has benefited from this?
I did, though that was about fifteen years ago. At the time, you had to graduate from a Tennessee high school to get the benefit.

Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown was recently closed. My guess is that there is an oversupply of medical employees in Morristown now.

Thanks for the info. I would like to know if people are using the free tuition benefit, as that is one of the reasons we are looking to move to Morristown. Anyone? Bueller?

I will be volunteering as a mentor for the Tennessee Achieves program, which is for students going for associates degrees. You can get more information on the scholarships and requirements here: https://www.tn.gov/collegepays/money...holarship.html. More detailed on the aid for 2-year degrees is here: Tennessee Promise

Yes, kids are benefiting from this!!!

The tuition benefit is statewide. As far as I know, there are no benefits specific to Morristown.

Why Morristown? Morristown has some issues. It's fairly dependent on manufacturing, doesn't have a good job market, and is still around an hour from Knoxville or the Tri-Cities for anything bigger. While it has some essentials (mall, Walmart, groceries, etc.) and a community college, it's very isolated.

I would move to Knoxville or at least closer to it.

Keep in mind the information you are reading is well over 7 years old, the age of the last post in this thread. FWIW.

My daughter graduates from school this year and is eligible for the TN Promise Program. The program is statewide, not just Morristown. It's nice because it's good at the traditional two year colleges but it is also available to use at our technical colleges as well.

Oh yes, Nbsinogirg. Students are excited about the free tuition, especially since colleges like Univ of TN works with the community colleges to maximize credits transferred. Unfortunately my boys all graduated the year before this went into effect.

I am a Lions Club member, and so I work with college bound students to get their credit hours met. I've been surprised at how many students think its no big deal and then miss out on money because they didn't get their volunteering done or approved before selecting one to serve.
