I live in Fountain City and people are always out walking. Activity has all but stopped with the cold snap we just had. My residential street is always active.

As to your other questions regarding what you are looking for, I cannot give an opinion. I'm sure there are like minded folk here, but I do not know of them. But I am one person and just because I do not know of them, doesn't mean they aren't here.

Sadly, when one does a recon for relocation, one is limited by time. Bearing that in mind, I realize you can't be everywhere at once. My guess is, just based on the parks statement, alone - you missed a lot. We have a staggering amount of parks and I think about 63 miles of greenways. If you had Googled "Knoxville parks" you would have found all that you needed. If you asked about this previously and I didn't respond then I really apologize. Some of these parks like the one in Sequoyah are breathtakingly beautiful.

City of Knoxville - Recreation

City of Knoxville - Parks

Parks Information - Knox County Tennessee

City of Knoxville - Greenways

This is a city that works. In fact, we are usually at the top of the list when it comes to doing business and our unemployment rate is very good. We also come out on top for best places to raise a family. Having said that, this city is very beautiful. Granted, this has to be about the worst time to visit. It's cold and gray, much like a lot of the country this time of year. Come back in the spring and I promise you that you will be bowled over.

We also have a lot of link-minded folks in the downtown, Fourth and Gill and Old North area to name a few. There are many other areas throughout the city. For a small city in the South we are surprisingly progressive. Maybe not so much in Farragut and some other areas (I know that is a broadbrush and all of our areas have folks from all persuasions) but we are far different than what you think. Our mayor is one of the most liberal in the country, for starters.

However, what you will find pervasive in this area is a live-and-let-live attitude. I don't mind Bible thumpers and they don't mind my beliefs. I've often found people in other parts of the country (I'm a transplant) that are far more in-your-face than in Knoxville. What we like is tolerant people of all persuasions.

Whatver you decide, best of luck to you.

Thank you, Hipnapster, well the 'openness' of Knoxville is why I considered it. You may be right on the 'time' of year....we were eager to visit and we will visit more over the next 4 months as our contract here is done in June. Thank you for your honest opinion and it sounds like you have grown to love your city. I have not given up on the idea.

Default Preparing for another visit

Hi All, I have been reading across the board at so many of the posts on various topics. I feel like I'm already getting to know so many of you.
We looked at Charleston, SC last week....ahhh...back to Knoxville
The only problem I am having personally is I want to see the Mountains, so I am looking more at PF or Seiverville, but...I need to go out into the 'community' and neighborhoods there to see more of the people and offerings.
Butttt, I like the city life....night life, music, little variety shops (not the brand kind) so I am a bit blurred in what to look for.
Does PF and Seiverville have a night life that is safe and unique? Or does it close up after 8 pm?

Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are mainly tourist traps. Holistic, non-Christian is about as far from what they are about as Miami is to Anchorage. Think Gospel, "As Seen On TV" stores and chain buffets. Not all of it, mind you, but when you are talking about "nightlife," that is what you will find.

I think there is a natural awakenings for Knoxville as well. Due to your comments I was wondering if you had considered Chattanooga. It's growth spurt has been more recent so it may not seem so gritty. Still don't know about the business prospects, though.

I'm not sure if the Smoky mountains are visible from downtown Chatt but you've got a couple of small mountains right next to the city limits.

Thank you Creeksitter, I will do a little research on Chatt to see what they have to offer. Yes, Knoxville has NA magazine, I feel Knxville is growing in that regard. We will be back down soon! Oh and CS did you all decide on a day and date for the Knoxville 'get together'?

Default Homes for sale

Hello all just a quick question, I have noticed - looking for homes - there is an inordinate amount of homes for sale. I searched on a site, they list amount of homes for sale per town. I am looking NE of Knoxville. Just wondering are all the folks leaving the Farms? Is there something going on I might need to know? Just so you know where I have been looking, towns like Maynardville and the near-by towns. My search took me there because when I ask for 5+ acres these are the results.

Now when I ask " Should I know about.....". I looked into moving into the deep east part of Penn and I found out something very important - no agent told me ( another topic )- that there could be a type of Deed restriction(s). Ie. someone else could OWN the resource(s) right(s) on your land - ie, wood, minerals, gas, oil etc - very unnerving.

Maybe people are just getting older and moving out of these TN towns? Just so many homes for sale is making me wonder.

I did find a nice little homestead just outside of Knoxville, but they wanted $12,000,000 !!! can anyone give me $11,846,450 for a down payment, ya know just because...( ya wanna ).. lol.
