So i've read through a lot of these forums, and there's a lot of great information here. Just like so many people here, I'm looking into moving to TN from New England. I'm a police officer and am hoping to join KPD.

Many of my questions have been answered by other forums, but I specifically wanted to know if anyone here knows any Knoxville police officers, and if so, do they make enough money to own a modest home (say on at least 2 acres) within 20 miles of the city?

My wife is a SAHM who home-schools our three kids, so she doesn't work (in the employment sense ). So I would be the only "bread winner." I have looked at the COL calculators, and even with the COL difference, it seems Knoxville cops are making less than what I'm making (comparatively speaking). But I don't care what the dollar amount is as long as I can support my family on my own income, but I would like to own a small 3 bed/2 bath home on 2+ acres.

I've seen a few people here a single parents and seem to be making a living just fine...of course I don't know if they're getting additional income from child support or alimony...

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a single mom that is suppose to get child support but doesn't. I am fine. I think in this area you can get along on one paycheck for most careers - although probably not in retail, fast food, etc. - but like anywhere else, it is a lot easier on two. I also happen to be in sales where there is always money to be made if you are good at it.
