I put an application in at rural metro fire rescue in knoxville. If I get the job, we will need to find a place pretty quick. Right now we are in florida(I know, another damn floridian,I'm sorry) I really want to move my family for a better life. Want better schools for my son to attend. Would like a small town area, but able to be about 10-20 minutes from shops, grocery, etc. I'm thinking somewhere outside of knoxville, want to be away from the big city, crime, like I'm near in florida. As a background of myself and family. I'm 29, a firefighter/paramedic, love the outdoors, fourwheeling with atv's, fishing, anything outdoors including camping. My wife is a housewife, but right now is a part time receptionist at a dentist office. We have a 3 year old son who loves being outdoors as well.
Any good areas anyone could suggest that would fit our lifestyle would be great

Thank you in advance

Wink Some locals can give you some ideas with a little more detail on your needs.

Uh-oh, fireman 649, now you're in trouble - forgetting a word! Believe me, we have all been there many times. We forgive and forget soooo easily.

It would probably help forum members who are locals to Knoxville area if they knew what section of rural metro Knoxville station you would be assigned to. Do you have that information yet? How long of a commute are you willing to make?

There are so many nice neighborhoods that someone on the forum will be able to steer you in the right direction once they have more detail on the type of neighborhood is important to you.

Best of everything in your possible move. You will really enjoy being around the friendly folks in the Knoxville area. Some of the nicest people I have ever met!

I just made my first visit to the area last week, and something that really amazed me is how "spread out" Knoxville is. It must be due to the major interstate action. The outlying areas are quiet and rural and yet you're still only 30 minutes from the heart of downtown.

Of course, I relocated from a large metropolitan area so anything with more than a couple trees is quiet to me, LOL.

I would suggest maybe looking into a 6-12 month lease in an apartment to get a lay of the land. Then you can find exactly what you want without the rush I'm very new to the area, but to me the Karns area of Knoxville might like an area you may be interested in.

I must disclose that I am a realtor with Coldwell Banker in Knoxville (Not soliciting business). The Bluegrass area is great and with good rated schools as well as Oak Ridge. The home prices are pretty good. Areas of South Knoxville are also good and great home values with good schools. If I can be of any other help just ask.

Welcome, Gary. I would like to offer a suggestion if you don't mind. It would benefit forum members and you if you would do to your profile and list real estate under your profile information. That way there will be no confusion and all will know that you are here just to participate.

We are anxious to hear what local realtors have to say on the forum. You may have helpful information on neighborhoods, schools, developments, etc. that you could share with us, as well as your opinions on various topics.

Hope you enjoy the Knoxville forum!

Yes. We like good, honest real estate agents! They are a wonderful resource when they are truly helpful.

I don't know much about south Knoxville. I think it's the only area I haven't been in. I'd love to know more.

I really like South Knoxville. It's got some really neat, older neighborhoods, it's close to downtown and also close to the Smoky Mountains, and it's beginning to get more retail (new Lowe's, new Home Depot, etc.) so that people there don't have to make the trek to West Knox for heavy duty shopping.
