I saw a nighttime guided tour for Knoxville advertised. Is it fun or cheesy? I have two kids, so I don't want scary. Anybody gone on it?

Hm, that could be something different to do with the kids. Hopefully, someone who knows can chime in. I'm curious too.

we went on one (I don't know how many there are) - it started at the Blount Mansion, walking tour. It was interesting - informative. Not scary at all. Just depends how your kids handle stories of death/murder/etc.

My wife and I have been on haunted tours in Charleston, Savannah and Nashville, and they're a lot of fun. They're all at night. You learn a lot about the history of the city, but they add in the local legends and lore about events where people have died. It may not be for small children, but if they're a little older it could be alright.

According to their website, this one has you use "equipment" and check for paranormal activity, or whatever they call it these days. I think that would be pretty hokey. I would like a tour for the historical interest but not to look like I'm an extra on "Ghostbusters."

My wife and I did this tour when it first started. We do some ghost hunting on our own and brought some of our own equipment. The people running the tour also brought equipment that was passed around for anyone to use that was interested. The tour covered several stops through downtown and they told the particular stories of the places we stopped to investigate. We never went inside a building. Everyone was courteous and we had a good time, but we enjoy a little bit smaller group wehn we go to investigate.

If ghost hunting is your thing, i would recommend it. At least to see what it's like.

Sorry about that. Just because ghost hunting isn't my thing doesn't mean other people don't enjoy it! So they don't talk about history, really?

We really enjoyed the background behind common landmarks in the downtown area. Not scary, but fun. Now my 12 year old says "Hi." to Clarence whenever we go by the man in the boat sculpture on Gay Street.
