I've noticed that several BP gas stations have changed brands. Anyone know what's going on?

"KenJo dumps BP, chooses Shell

Maryville-based KenJo Markets is changing its fuel offerings after 56 years with BP.

The company will sell Shell, ExxonMobil and Marathon at its 35 Knoxville-area KenJo Markets, as well as BP sites served by sister company Down Oil Co., said Wes Carruthers, president of KenJo Markets.

The company said in a statement that BP “had its fair share of challenges over the last several years and has taken some hits as a result of these incidents, especially in the Southern states. Recently, BP Oil Company made the decision to revise its marketing strategy in the Southeastern United States. Downey Oil Company and KenJo Markets took that opportunity to do the same.”

The conversion is expected to be completed by year’s end." Taken from New and expanded business activity » Knoxville News Sentinel

This transition should not be much of a surprise. I recall moderate resistance locally as the BP/Amoco merger began, and greater resistance in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico spill.

On a related note, all of Roadrunner Markets (Roadrunner Markets) new stores are exclusively Shell-branded. I have yet to see a Roadrunner BP rebranded, but it seems their dealings with BP are quietly dwindling.
