SMG, Wow what a way to get a couple of days of rest! Seriously, speedy uneventful recovery is my prayer and wish for you. Take care and follow those doc's orders. Oh well, guess you know that, don't you?

Glad you got some help when you did and didn't try the Vicks routine to cure youself. Take care, pal.

SMG I am wishing you a speedy recovery as well. I hope they are keeping the hospital extra warm for you. LOL Bones, great suggestion.... just visualizing SMG wearing 2 coats and wrapping herself in the flannel sheets.

I'm hoping everyone is staying nice and toasty tonight. We've got the fireplace on and homemade afgahans wrapped around. It sounds like the cold is going to be reaching way down to you too Alice. Brrrrrr

Thanks for the well wishes you all. I just now clear headed enough to log on. My husband just ran home to open up the cabinets so our pipes wouldn't freeze tonight. I hope you all stay warm and safe.

SMG, get well soon! Do everything the Dr's say, soak up the good meds they are giving you and know I am sending you a virtual hug and a big pot of home made chicken noodle soup!

Default Freezing pipes

Now I have one more thing to worry about. How do I keep pipes from freezing? Remember this is a Florida girl. The inside of the house is at 66. Help ! Will I be ok in the morning?
I have the heat set at 63 .

Tn 405-
The easy way is to leave cabinet doors open that have pipes in the cabinets. That way the heat circulates around the pipes and keeps them from freezing.
For example, our laundry room here in our apartment is unheated, I leave the door to the room open so it doesn't freeze the pipes to the washer.
Keep warm,
Pam

Hey there! This question was one of the first ones I posted on CD last year...right here on the Knoxville chat thread! I got a lot of good advice from everyone here.

Last night our local newscast had some more tips:
* Leave the smallest trickle of H2O flowing from both hot & cold faucets.
* They now sell hand & foot warmer packs at most drugstores & bigbox stores. (Used to be you could only find them @ sporting good stores.)
Anyway, they showed the packs being activated, then taped to the curve of the pipe.

I haven't tried the heat pack method yet, but I'm going to today. I'm in NY about 3 hours north of NYC. We are in a "deep freeze". Sadly, those 2 words together mean negative digits for days on end.

I'm wondering if there would be a less expensive method to duplicate the heat packs? I thought about using those bean-bag thingies you find at craft fairs to keep your neck warm, but wonder if that would be too heavy on the pipe?
