Hello everyone. I don't want to sound needy or anything but Ive been homeless (sort of ) since dec. 2012. first my 10 yr old and I went to Michigan to stay with in-laws but realized their values clashed with the way I raised my children. I don't believe in raising children in violence whether talk or not and I sure don't believe in playing the race card every time something wrong happens in the world. So my step parents said that we could stay with them for a little while in RV in Texas (with them). Longer story short My step parents are retired and a 10 yr old with a mom that works nights gets bored. Hence no one gets along with no separate rooms. So she went to live with my oldest daughter in Alabama and I have to leave in the next couple months (step parents are moving on to next work/camp site.
I cant go back to Alabama, jobs are scarce and I don't get along well with my siblings to point interferes with my health.
(they do drugs and alcohol I don't)
Im working in nursing home in laundry/housekeeping right now, and im using my paychecks to fix my car to make a long trip from here in Texas . I might be able to get enough money together to get to Marysville, TN . Im hoping but not enough for place to stay and look for a job. Im 49 and I really want my daughter back with me but I want her happy and safe. Thus why I chose Marysville TN for the safety. write ups on school system and people are encouraging and I hate a lot of snow (not much of one for driving in a lot of it) And heat kills me so I cant hang with her outside if too hot. And we both suffer some allergies. Mostly me but I can handle.

So my question is this...where can I go for help to get started and set up and send for my daughter eventually. I miss her so much. My older ones have grown and gone 27,25 and a 22 yr old in Army in Afghanistan.
My 10 yr old She gives me a reason for all I do any more.

any suggestions that are not mean in nature would be greatly appreciated.

Oh the reason I ended up homeless In Dec. was my rent got raised twice what I made in paycheck a month. So it was the car we lived in or trusted the in-laws. I made the wrong choice.

City data state forums and subforums are usually centered around general information, weather, housing availability, job market, social/political leanings, etc. Most of the people trying to answer the questions are locals or transplants that want to give their opinions on the good and bad points of living in an area.
When people come and start asking questions about very specific issues there may be few or no people here with the experience or knowledge to answer their questions in any meaningful way. City data is great for a lot of things but it IS limited to whatever information can be supplied by the people on the boards, most of whom are not experts. They're average joes just like you.
I suppose the usual answer would be for Ccripps to seek out social services and talk to them. If none of the people that frequent this forum have been through anything similar, I'm not sure why you would want to fault them for not having any answers for her.

If I fault anyone, I won't dance around it. Most people know she should start at the labor department and social or human services.

I am pretty sure the labor department is in Maryville. Both can be Googled. I would start there mam.

The reason most of us didn't answer is that we have zero experience in the problem the poster presented. Most posters on city data tend to be more affluent and less likely to know about government services unless they work there or volunteer in groups that help the impoverished. I wouldn't know what to do because I have not been in the situation and don't know anyone that I could even ask. I've never been without a job when I was in the work force and wouldn't know the department of the government one applies to when one wants to move in and get public assistance and a job.

While I certainly feel bad for her situation I can't and don't add to conversation I don't have real information on. If she had had questions about growing things here, weather, shopping apartment and housing and where the DMV is it would have been easy to say something, but I don't know what is being asked so I didn't respond.

Not to sound unkind but there are enough people living hand to mouth here and services are not tremendous because TN is the odd state that keeps its spending in check to keep a balanced budget. This area has a low cost of living relative to other states but many here also work extremely low paying jobs or multiple part time jobs to make ends meet and still live in or near poverty levels. I can't see encouraging someone to come here without a dime to her name, no family or others to rely on and no job prospects.

ccripps64, get in contact with United Way of Greater Knoxville. They should be able to point you to the right agency/organization in the Knoxville area.

If you click on a users name you will see the option to send a "DIRECT MESSAGE". Sure other forums use the "Private Message" terminology but not CD. It's always good to know the local language. Just sayin.

I volunteered time to help people in the programs. Section 8 specifically. It is my opinion, after MUCH experience dealing with this demographic, that those in true need are VERY seldom placed in the situation. I would say 99% arrive there because of poor decisions making skills rooted in the adulation of stupidity as evidenced by headlines involving sports and rap figures. Because the single mom tends to either be, or want to be kids, the situation, standards and beliefs perpetuate generational transference. If a participant arrives in the situation through no fault of her own, shell soon find that letting the taxpayer bear expenses is FAR more beneficial than obtaining employment in the industries matched to that individuals educational accomplishments and or experience.

Soon babbydaddy drama and violence ensues, huge 10k plasma TVs and iPhone 5 sail phones all around.

Poor decision making skills and the adulatiin leading to the emulation of self destructive STUPID cultural icons are beyond my capacity for compassion. I'd say; were all full, look elsewhere

just my opinion here but Bass Daddy did try helping me. as for a couple others or okay one other one whose post I took as being hurtful. I am 49 yrs old and I did not chose to be in this situation. I have no babbydaddy , I was widowed in 1994 and chose raising my children (3 grown, graduated adults now) over supporting drunk and drug using lazy men. so forgive me if I finally hit the bottom after 19 yrs. I have worked and will work for as long as my body allows me to work I don't ask for handouts I'm asking for guidance in a town I thought someone who lived there could point in the right direction. But I'm sorry. Ill look else where.

Don't worry Mam. Some of these people don't represent the greater Knoxville population. Everybody I met in person while there was great. Super friendly and helpful people.
