I'm looking for a clean, safe area preferably close to a good health food store, Trader Joe's and Costco. I also like farmer's markets. I like walking and biking, so parks and natural areas are great. It would be nice if the community was also suitable for walking and bicycling. I'm thinking of buying a condo, preferably one story in a dog friendly community. I'd consider cities just outside of Knoxville, as well. Thank you for any help!!

West Knoxville, or Farragut.

Trader Joes and Costco are miles apart and separated by sprawling suburbia. There is a greenway across the interstate from TJs but I think no condos.

I get the feeling you would be happiest in Bearden close to Earth Fare and the 3rd creek greenway. The Sutherlands is the only condo complex nearby but you could find a small house in the forest hills area. Price range?

The Sutherlands is cute, over in Bearden. West Knoxville and Farragut are also strong possibilities. You could try for downtown but that may be more than you want to pay.

No place will have it all. In other words, you aren't going to be in walking distance to downtown, TJ's, Costco and a nice greenway. But you can find a place in the vortex from downtown to Farragut that will at least put you in hitting distance of all of them.

I would not recommend any other area, though.

You don't say a budget so it's hard to say which area is best. Assuming your budget allows I will second west Knoxville or Farragut. I'm a fan of the Cedar Bluff area as it's more or less halfway between West Town Mall (with a TJ nearby) and Turkey Creek (Costco, Earth Fare and everything else).

I find 23 Condo listing for Cedar Bluff: MLS Search .

Here is the listing for all the greenways in Knoxville: City of Knoxville - Greenways .

And as I always say; You have to come and visit to see what "floats your boat".

Edit: Well the link to the condo listing results won't copy over but if you select property type (condo) area (Knox county) and sub area (cedar bluff) you'll get the results.

The OP neglected to tell us she wants a liberal community with cool summers.

While there are liberal pockets in Knoxville there are no neighborhoods where the summers are magically cool.

Another drive-by poster. Next...

Sounds like the OP would be happy in the Northern California/Pacific Northwest region. That region is pretty very liberal.

Ah, thank you. That post was from Spring 2011 and wasn't posted here. Let's see if the OP returns here and is still of the same mindset. Plus, our summer here this year was so mild.

There are pockets here in Knoxville where the OP might be happy. I also think of Asheville and I, too, think of the Pacific Northwest.

Thank you to all that posted some wonderful suggestions for the OP, and to all that read these threads in "lurkdom".

Given her temperature requirements the OP may have decided to be a snowbird.

That could be why she is looking at an affordable city like Knoxville - for a winter home.
