Hi, we are considering relocating from the Dallas area, and in need of some help. I would like to live lakefront, but still provide one of the best choices in schools for my daughter who is 6 years old. We are fine with a 30 minute drive from Knoxville where my husband would be working.

There's no other choice, imho, than the Farragut School District. I hope you have the budget for it.

Yes, I meant to add my budget as it would be helpful in locating neighborhoods that would fit my needs. My budget is $500,000.

I did a quick check through the local public MLS and I don't think you'll find lakefront and good schools (Farraugut or West Knox) at that budget. It looks like that would be in the million and up category. Lakefront further away (Lousiville for example) would be cheaper but then the schools may be an issue.

After a quick search the best I could find was one with a lake "view" at about $550,000 on Warrior Trace. Unfortunately the public access MLS is no longer as user friendly as it used to be and I can't find a way to link to specific choices for this post.

If you take out the lake from your wishlist their will be plenty of homes to choose from in your price range.

I certainly agree the recent update is not user friendly in any way.

I'm still not sure what the distinction is between lakes and rivers around here, but if you're interested in waterfront, but not necessarily beachfront, there are a few options in Oak Ridge near Melton Lake Drive as well. We are Woodland Elementary parents, and we've been quite happy with the Oak Ridge schools so far.

There are some shared waterfront developments in the Farragut area, i.e. Jefferson Park, that might hit the price point. Maybe even with a water view.

If her husband is working in West Knoxville that might work but if it is downtown Knoxville, and for some reason I took her post to mean that, I think your location might be pushing the 30 minutes during rush hour.

I've actually never driven Clinton highway during rush hour, but I suspect you may be right if he's downtown.
