Hi all. My fiancee and I are planning on moving near the end of March to the East Tennessee area! We are considering Kodak, Seymour and Seiverville (sorry if I spelled that wrong). Any information or suggestions? I am constantly looking on here for info. We considered the tri city area but would rather be close to PF and Gatkinburg. We have a son but he will not be moving with us right away. We want an area that is rural but still has all the needs and wants near by. I work more in the customer service industry as my fiancee does construction, insulation and factory work. We are really excited for this move! I have been in the Smokies a few times and fall in love every time. Right now we are at the point of our lives for a change. Currently coming from Michigan. I have lived in NY, FL, SC and Indiana so Im pretty used to different cultures. South is my favorite because everyone seems to have manners. Lol. Anyway! We prefer actually a mobile home on some land so i guess thats my housing criteria. A house would be great as long as its under 700 a month. Thanks in advance for any help as it is greatly appreciated!

- anna

Hi Anna, Kodak or Seymour sound like good choices so you have equal proximity to Sevierville/PF and Knoxville. But keep in mind during certain times of the year, you will have more traffic to deal with going into Sevier county if you live in Kodak. No way to get around it.

Have you looked at craigslist for homes or land?

Yes been searching craigslist almost night and day when I'm not at work! Lol. We have found a lot so far. Hardest part is it being a few months in advance and most people don't 'hold' homes. We have been talking to one guy from the Yes! Communities or whatever? Apparently there is a remodeled 2003 3bed 2bath mobile home for sale in Kodak. So we may do that depending on what it all entails. I am so excited to be close to Seveirville... I am a Dolly Parton fan for sure. Really glad someone like you posted positive things about coming there! My fiancee does say he will probably hate the traffic but we deal with it usually day to day... im sure not as bad though lol seeing a deer down there im sure tourists stop in road and look.

Don't move without getting jobs. Try to move where you can be closer to work. You might have better luck in Knoxville finding jobs, too. Don't buy something sight-unseen. Be careful of high-pressure tactics. Yes! Communities have several of these mobile homes across the country. You might want to Google them for more info. Personally, I don't know a thing about them but be cautious. Once again, get jobs and live near there to save money. Also, if you have a little one, it makes it much easier to be close to daycare, etc. Plenty of us live in Knoxville and visit Dollywood, etc.

I have family who live in Seiverville and from what I gather Kodak is not the best area.

Like others stated, its best to check around first before even buying or getting into a lease. Some parts of Kodak, does have its problems, but there are many more good spots than bad. However with that said, again its best to go down and check out the area.

Thank you everybody for the advice! I'm glad I decided to post here and find out first handedly from those who live there. What are the good areas of Knoxville? Heard Farragut was nice but a little expensive. I live north of detroit in more safer suburbs. A little town of 10,000 or so. I heard west and north were better than east and south. How about being in the city of Seveirville? We have atleast 5 grand saved so hoping that could last a couple months? Will be taking a visit in February to check out all the areas. whats up with the 300 million dollar resort DP is building?? Lol.

Do NOT move to South Knoxville if you hate working class people or middle class people who are comfortable with their lot in life.

Leave it for those of us who enjoy an abundance of nature close to downtown.
