Hi-I'm in my 50's, single with a dog. I live in the Chicago area and am looking to move south. I've been to Fayetteville, Arkansas-Bella vista, to be precise. I liked it and someone recommended Knoxville also. I work from home so I can move with a job. Any neighborhoods/suburbs you would recommend-I'd eventually like to buy a house but will rent for a year. Hoping to find 3 bd, 2ba townhouse or sf home for up to $1100 a month. I'd like to be able to be near restaraunts, etc. but not in the thick of things-I like my peace and quiet

Based on this-any recommendations?

Thanks!!

If you're thinking Knoxville, consider the west side near Turkey Creek, Farragut, and even Oak Ridge. Give serious thought to Chattanooga instead...you'd love it.

You should come and visit and see what part of Knoxville feels right to you. There are areas where the homes are 100 years old, and others where they are brand new. Many are a mix of older and newer.
I'm not sure what you mean by being in the thick of things, but outside of living downtown, most homes are away from shopping, etc.
Knoxville is very spread out, and you can be out in the sticks, and still get to shopping in less than 15 minutes.
Come and visit and see for yourself. Spend a few days just driving around the area.

I'd like to know, too. I have friends - a couple - that moved to Chattanooga over a year ago. They hated it. They are counting down the days until they move back in March. She said she didn't care for the vibe, the schools, the violent crime. Not enough quality restaurants. But frankly, I don't know how anyone can recommend a city based on so little information. Regarding Knoxville, lots of folks living in areas in West Knoxville. I live in Bearden - more or less - about 10 minutes from downtown and everything else but quiet.

West is probably the most popular, due to Shopping centers, choice of eating places, and schools are all good, but West for sure.
