Hello everyone. While nothing is official, there's a very strong possibility I'll be moving to Knoxville in a year or so. At that point, I would potentially be a recent grad seeking graduate studies at UT.

There are a couple of different situations that may occur. I'm a musician, and I'd be attending UT for music. Additionally, two buddies of mine from Arkansas, where I'm originally from, might attend UT simultaneously, also for music. However, it may not work out, and it might only be me. If I move in with them, a house would be preferred...that way, we could play music in the house without having to trek to UT every time we want to play/practice. I've done research on a couple different neighborhoods, but I trust all of you more than my own interpretations...Fourth and Gill seems like a good place, supposing we could find a place for rent, and I've also checked out Bearden, Mechanicsville, Oakwood, and some places at the Fort as well. We'd have vehicles so transportation wouldn't be a hassle.
However, if I end up going alone, it would probably be preferred to have a studio apartment or something close to UT, something within biking distance. I've checked out a couple of places in that regard too, generally around the Fort, or by the water between UT and downtown (not sure what the neighborhood is called).

It would be nice to live somewhere walkable with greenery and such, and that's almost a major preference for all of us. Safety would be cool too...no less safe than the Fort, for example (I'm somewhat familiar with the crime level around the Fort). And, in terms of the houses, too far isn't good. We don't want to be in a suburb or anything. We all enjoy Knoxville and its cultural offerings.
Any general thoughts, ideas, criticisms, advice? It would be much appreciated!

I suspect you didn't get any responses because you are heading in the right direction. Mechanicsville is probably going to be more crime than the Fort. Other than that, you really have great ideas. Carry on!
