The wife and I are getting close to moving to the Knoxville area and plan to rent for about a year while looking at locations to build a new home. We have been to the area a few times but since we have not been "renters" for about 20 years, we was wondering if anyone could suggest rental places to look at for two adults in our 50's? We would prefer not being in an apartment complex, would want a two bedroom or more and hope the rent will be under $1200. per month.

Do you know what area you would like to be in (east, west, south, north)? It will help people narrow it down for you.

We "think" we would prefer west Knoxville, Farragut, Lenoir City and possibly down to Maryville. Part of the reason for this is we have some family in the area (Farragut and Lenoir City) but have not been close to them in 30 years due to the distance mainly and; I have a cousin at exit #33 Cleveland TN whom we are very close to. He has been there for 20 years but could not give much advice on the Knoxville area.

In searching past posts I have found what looks like a good site, hotpads.com, and I have been looking at realtor.com as well. We would likely be bringing with us a Touring motorcycle and a Polaris Ranger UTV side by side so we think a apartment complex is not the best for us unless they have a garage for the toys to go in!

There are very few apartments/townhouses with garages around Knoxville without a hefty price. There are quite a few that are close to storage facilities that could relieve your anxiety about "toy safety" though. Also, just because the apartments have garages on site, doesn't mean they have them available too. Typically, there are not designated garages per each apartment and sometimes (as we found) they can rent more than one garage to the same apartment renter as well. They also have waiting lists for the garages...

Might do better to rent a house in the area. Not sure if you could find one in your price range, but it seems you should be able to.

I have been able to locate some condo's and homes which have garages, they are not easy to find but at least they are out there. We only plan to rent for a year while we have a house built so even a half hour drive will be ok. Thanks for the replies.
