Please help to prepare me in regards to bugs and insects... In Seattle, we deal with ants and fruit flies mainly

in spring and fall. Of course we have spiders and slugs too. We can leave dirty dishes overnight (not that I like

to) On the other hand we need to refrigerate our fruit.

Thanks for any info.

It's the south. It gets hot, it gets sticky.

Ants and spiders are pretty common. In the fall, ladybugs will come out, and can be quite heavy in some homes. In the summer, you will hear cicadas.
If you leave food out, you may see fruit flies, and may see roaches as well.
If you go out in the woods you may find ticks.

Keep yard free of water collecting areas. You may want to have yard treated.

Bugs is too general of a term. In fact TS didn't even ask a question.

The two best non-DEET repellents are picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus, per Consumer Reports.

Leaving out food will lead to ants and roaches taking over your kitchen. Mosquitos are bad, anywhere in the eastern US has this problem. Standing water is the enemy when it comes to Mosquitos, as that is where they breed.

Now that I know zfam is a boater, I'd like to mention that we do have No-see-ums (ceratopogonidae) in moist areas as well. Fine screening on porches prevents them being a problem.
