I'm not sure why anyone would install electric resistance heat in a house, or if they had it, why they would keep it.

Perhaps because they lease or rent? Or can't afford the initial cost of a new unit?

My electric bills run about $70 to $100 a month in the winter. That's with several lights on 24 hours a day, two laptops on almost all of the time, over 1,100 square foot apartment. In the summer, the highest it has gone is about $120, with my new unit. In the spring and fall, it's usually about $60.

When I had my house, which was about 1,700 square feet, my bills were running about $150 in winter, about $200 in winter. That was with a heat pump.

My mother's electric bill in Mass. would run her anywhere from $600 to $1,000 a month in the winter.

Now do you see why I think of "high" bills as something much different from what you see around here? This is important because people are relocating from areas that could have much higher costs. "High" is relative.

By the way, if anyone is interested, here is the current rates at KUB. I understand what HA is saying, but I thought I'd throw in the rates for everyone else.
