We have lived in S FL for 30 years and the heat is starting to wear on us. Love the ocean and boating but not doing that so much anymore. My husband may have a chance to relocate with his job AT&T.

We are both originally from up north (Canada and NJ) so we know what cold weather is about. My husband is a skilled wood carver in his spare time and we do art shows sometimes. Wondering if there are many around that area?

We also love horseback riding and hiking and I imagine there's got to be some of that around there too. We have looked at Tullahoma, Galatin and Maynardsville. Which area would you say is best and why?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Of those areas, you'd probably prefer Gallatin.

However, what you're describing in the post reminds me a lot of the Crossville/ Fairfield Glade area. You may want to check that out.

If you like boating, you might also want to look at Tellico Village in Loudon. It's an active adult community of about 7,000 people on Tellico Lake, 30 miles SW of Knoxville. We visited there twice and it seems like a very active community with lots going on and very friendly people. We are seriously considering retiring there in a couple years. They have tons of clubs and of particular interest to you all, a word carving club that does some very nice work.

You should definitely have the Knoxville area on your short list if you like boating. Of course it's not the ocean, but there are so many beautiful, vast lakes around the East TN area that many of the major boat brands are headquartered there, like Sea Ray, Mastercraft, and Bayliner, off the top of my head. That's for a reason.

It's a boater's paradise.

Good luck!!!
