If you will have a car, like nature and history, and do not mind a little driving, I suggest Cades Cove. My husband and I went for the first time yesterday and it was really cool. Go early, take water, and take your camera! http://www.cadescove.net/auto_tour.html

Default Coming for a day -shopping or things to do around the courthouse?

I'm coming to Knoxville next week to bring someone to the old courthouse at 300 Main st and I'll need something to keep me busy for the day. I'm not familiar with Knoxville, and really don't want to venture far and would rather stay on foot while there. Are there any shops and restaurants within walking distance?

Thanks!

Gay Street and Market Square should keep you pretty busy. You can always walk a little further and go into the Old City (just a block or so) for more shops and food. You will probably have a hard time choosing where to eat since there are lots of places to pick from.

Actually, The Lunch Box has moved to Church Street, across the street from the museum.

If you are on foot, walk across the street from the old courthouse and through the courtyard of the federal building. If you keep walking straight all the way down, you will walk right to Market Square. One block down is Gay Street. Between the two, you should have plenty to keep you busy.
