I went to a chiropractor once, and my neck still creaks every time I turn it. It sounds like that bone crunching sound you hear in horror movies. And this was one of those Beverly Hills "doctors to the stars," with pictures of old TV stars on the walls. (Wonder if their necks creak, too? I'll have to listen closely on the re-runs.)

My only advice would be: make sure you find a good one-- from referrals-- and let him/her know your concerns. I'm sure it will be fine. Most people have wonderful results.

Hi, I promise you I felt just like you did about 15 years ago. The only reason I caved is b/c I could barely walk and my neighbor was bigger than I am! She threatened to call an ambulance and stick me with the bill! Dr. W is great. I never felt that "cracking" in my neck with him that I felt with the couple of chiros I went to in that awful place I came from. I'd be glad to offer to go with you but since we've never met in "real life", you probably wouldn't want to do that. Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide.

Quiet honestly, after years of visiting chiropractors (I've been to at least 8 or 9 now), I don't feel they are worth it. For ever decent one out there, there are a dozen "rack 'em and crack 'em" operations where they give everybody the same adjustment every time. The last 2 I went to visit simply would not listen to a word I said when I tried to explain my issues and they took me through the standard set of adjustments.

For me, warming up a little at home and then doing some stretching and corrective exercises that I've learned through online research and going through physical therapy has been far more of a help than any chiropractor I've seen. The last one I saw for 3 months, twice a week as he recommended and I can honestly say I was worse after the 3 months. I asked him why am I worse and he gave a vague non answer. When I left, I decided I'm done with chiropractors.

Sorry to not be able to offer any good referrals, but I thought you might want to consider getting a good referral for a quality physical therapist as they will help you with exercises and stretches that will correct the cause of the problem. Insurance companies are a lot friendlier to physical therapists as well.
