Hunting for the mythical perfect place for retirement. Considering the Knoxville area and see lots of recommendations for Maryville. I can understand...close to the city (town?) of Knoxville, nice scenery, low cost (compared to other locations) for housing, nice people, etc. etc. My concern is that maybe it has now been "discovered" and people are moving there in droves. I am in the Seattle area and don't want to deal with traffic jams or mushrooming suburbs in retirement! Am I worried about nothing? Is there another as yet undiscovered town I should consider in the area...close to Knoxville???

Sorry, all the secret towns have been discovered..... :-)
You will have little worry of traffic jams and mushrooming suburbs. Not even close.

I visit Seattle twice a year, and I can assure you traffic will not be a concern for you.

Good to hear! Hope to come visit next spring. Was considering small towns on the west coast of Florida, but when I saw someone post "please stop coming here" on the Florida/Tampa forum, I knew it was already too late! Plus, I really like the idea of four distinct seasons. Something about hearing Christmas carols while it's 70 degrees and sunny just strikes me as wrong! I am a bit concerned about your user name...they don't by chance actually have barking spiders in Tennessee, do they? I have battled giant house spiders here, and they are SCARY!!!! Saw someone post about scorpions...hope I never encounter one of those! Spiders, scorpions and tornadoes are on my "never want to see" list!
