Hmmm... the flower looks like that, SMG, but the leaves are different. Thistle has also been ruled out, though apparently I do have some of that in front.

Who needs TV? There's an unfolding mystery right out in my backyard.

By gum, GBH, it sounds like you have the garden spot of E. TN!!

Don't worry, with all of us helping you, you will have a yard worth talking about by the end of the summer!!

I hope your mother knows a lot more than we seem to.

Oh SMG, the purple clover looks beautiful!! Maybe GBH should post a pic of the purple gumdrop weed - how about it GBH??? Then Gem and I could use some more of our technical jargon to describe it!! We will be anxiously waiting to hear what your Mom's final determination ends up being!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.....I'm going to be back and forth between C-D and working on my taxes....guess I better concentrate more on the taxes, but they certainly aren't as much fun!

Is it this?

Savi

This looks like a great link to get rid of them, with lots of pics for identification!

Thanks, everybody, for the suggestions! I'll give everybody a cookie for their trouble when I'm able to pass out more. Can't take a pix today, bebette-- it's dark and stormy. But Nancy Drew is on the case, and I'll let you know what I find out.

I'm sure it's something basic; my plant knowledge is far from encyclopedic. I don't think it's thistle, hiknapster. At least, my neighbor said it's not. But then she has the top down on her convertible when it's 35 degrees outside, so maybe I should give her opinion further scrutiny.

I think you should sell tickets GBH! Kind of like a freakish circus side act. Come see the creeping, mysterious purple gumdrop weed. Maybe it will grow really big and eat annoying people.
