As for me, no offense taken, none that I can see implied. I get where you are coming from, my parents didn't have indoor plumbing as children, either, and my grandmother lived till the end of her days without electricity or water - "don't want it or need it," she said.

I guess there's a generational divide in the term 'redneck' that I didn't know existed. Hmm, interesting. To me, the kind of people you're describing as 'rednecks' are just good old Southerners.

Great original post - that was funny, made me a little homesick for the South (I earned my master's degree at UT).

jbogitlu, keep in mind, I was trying to interject some humor into my comparisons (i.e. here in NJ someone who mows their own lawn is a redneck) between this synthetic, sterile place versus somewhere natural and organic and hands-on like rural Tennessee.

Sorry if it wasn't apparent lol!

p.s. you should see how they run for the phone when we ride our quads in the woods behind their fenced, manicured lawns. Then we're not just rednecks, we're criminals! lol

Gosh, I am rethinking the wisdom of posting this 'diddy' now.......I didn't realize everyone would focus on one line, when the rest of it is so cute!

Southern women know the joys of June, July, and August:
Colorful hi-heel sandals
Strapless sun dresses Iced sweet tea with mint
Straw hats and big sunglasses

Air conditioning...

I like that I learned "sweet milk" is what we consider just "milk" up here. I'd never dream that if I ask for milk, I might get buttermilk! Yikes!

bbkaren I learned a few things, too! I know it was meant humorously but it was also helpful for those of us who would like to assimilate as quickly as possible. Too often comparisons have been phrased in such a way to make others feel like they are unwelcome. This was a nice way to point out manners, customs and cultural views!! I sure hope I can remember all the things all y'all have been saying.

I'm a fan of the sundresses in particular.

That trip to an Auburn Football game was amazing last September.

I think I am going to suggest to Mr. Pal's to add Mint tea to the menu!
