If we wanted to live outside city limits, but in a rural setting in the Maryville area, where would I look? We'd like to be within say 10-15 miles of Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, etc. Our druthers would be for a place with one or two acres. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks, Buddy.

I'd try Hwy 321, near Friendsville, in Loudon county. Any area around there will give you the closeness without being in town. And, if you get lucky enough to find a house in Friendsville I'll be jealous!! Friendsville is a very cool, old, tiny town. Very quaint...

Try Seymour central to Maryville, Knoxville and Sevierville/Pigeon Forge and yet a nice country setting.

Friendsville is a small, older community with a couple of old bussiness, and an older, small residential area around the original "downtown". It's a typical older town from the late to mid 1900's, that never grew into a thriving city. But it's in a great location. Close to Maryville, & Lenoir City, which both have shopping, grocery stores, Home Depot, etc. Maryville is bigger, with a Mall and more spread out, with many more businesses. Friendsville and the rural areas nearby are like living out in the country with all the conviences of city living.
But that's not the only area in the surrounding counties near Knoxville that offer the same lifestyle. We live near Melton Hill Dam, in Loudon county. We're less than 1 mile from I-40, less than 15 mins to west Knoxville, & 5 miles to Lenoir City. We're also very close to Oak Ridge which has one of the largest technology centers connected to military, energy, and government services.
Many people don't know that Oak Ridge was called the Secret City, and was built in secret by the government to develop the atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima.
There's many high tech job's and also supporting jobs in Oak Ridge. They're currently building a new project that will employ around 1500 new workers. Oak Ridge has always been one of the premier employer's in this area.
