Actually I was just working on our upcoming trip; we plan to spend a couple days in that area and the cabins look nice. At sunset cottage (dot com) we found cabins for around 100 a night, and since we're coming in April, there's a special for 20% off if you stay two nights. That makes it almost the same as our room at the comfort inn--

Now, how nice the places are, remains to be seen...

Karen, fwiw, I have never heard anything bad about Sunset Cottages. Several locals I know have used them.

You'll find it easy to get to shopping if you're near the trolleys.
:: Pigeon Forge / Sevierville Fun Time trolley :: (http://www.pigeonforgetrolley.org/rideguide.html - broken link)
Gatlinburg Trolley Map
A cheap, easy and fun way to get around without having to drive and worry about parking.

Think about renting a log cabin. With 6 people you can get a full 2 bedroom cabin with all appliances, cooking etc you need for $100 - $200 a night or so and if divided that among each person, that's a deal. We have done that 3 times so far with some couples and it only ended up being $50 a night for us. Check out Patriot Getaways onlines. They have cabin rentals all throughout the area and some specials going on as well.

I would definitely think about renting a cabin. As mentioned previously, you can find some pretty cheap (and nice!) cabins. They are even cheaper in the "off-peak" season, which would be about this time of year. I would also look into Pigeon Forge. It's not too far from Gatlinburg.

I'm actually going to Gatlinburg w/ my sister in another week and a half. I can't wait! Wish you luck on your planning!

I'm not so sure it is off peak season now. From what I've heard the season starts in March and runs to November. Although before we moved here we came in March and got "specials". Maybe the availability of specials depends on how slow the season starts out.
