We're planning on moving to Knoxville/Maryville area and I have a question for other Knoxville transplants that moved there with kids. I was reading a post somewhere else about a person from Michigan who moved to Knoxville and her kids being called yankees and treated like outsiders because they had different accents.
We have 4 kids ages 6-14 with the oldest starting high school this year and was wondering about your experiences with schools and the kids being accepted by the local kids...
Thank you

We transplanted here from California and my daughter started here mid-way through her freshman year. Honestly, her high school woes are no different than when she was back in CA from the looks of it. She has a good set of friends plus her grades are 100 times better than back in CA. The only problem we incurred was when she tried out for the soccer team. It seems that if a student did not play with the same group of kids from the transferring middle school, you were not getting on the team. Other than that, even that little hiccup blew over quite well.

Knoxville has a great number of transplants - all with varying accents. At least half the people I meet aren't from here. It's never easy to be the new kid, but there seem to be a lot of them. That should help.
