I am relocating from Florida and I am wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on the above location. Is this a safe area for a girl to be living alone in with a small child. I am relocating because the cost of living in Saint Augustine Florida is ridiculous.

I am more familiar with the Strawberry Plains area, and I need to be somewhat close to that area...yet close to Knoxville for the job market. Any pointers or opinions are greatly appreciated. A realtor will not tell me, because by state law he said it was illegal. So the best place for me to go for real information would be...to the people that are from the area.

Thank you.

My gut instinct based on the features around Ivy Rd (Magnolia Ave, Chilhowee Park, MLK) is to say that no, it's not a safe area at all. I know Magnolia is infamous for crackheads and prostitution, and I generally advise people to stay away from South / East Knoxville.

But at the same time I am not familiar with that exact location so I couldn't say for sure.

Out of the choices, Holston looks like the best and Ivy is probably the worst. I really don't think any of those 3 are in a REAL bad area - I think the bad part is just a little more west... Once Magnolia turns into Asheville, I think it gets a little better. I have minimal experience with the area. I think Strawberry Plains is nice. Keep plugging on this forum - I'm sure you will get more (& better) answers.

Go on, keep telling people South Knoxville is dangerous. We like to keep up that illusion so we can retain our rural, uncrowded ambience.

Unfortunately those college kids didn't read the dangerousness memo so now they are clogging up our roadways. Sigh.
