So I discovered! Fortunately, the weather was good and there was not much traffic. Eventually, I would always come upon a place to pull off and get passed if I had a driver behind me who wanted to go faster. So, I took the curvy areas quite slowly. I would never want to make the drive at night or in the rain, but coming home was easier as I had a better idea of what to expect.

I hit a raccoon near the Hiwassee River crossing driving that route at night one time. Poor guy crossed the road right in front of my truck and there was no way to avoid hitting him.

One of the challenges is that there is nowhere to pull over even a little on some stretches of road. I was particularly nervous about the people who were coming at me around curves too fast and crossing the yellow line. The older I get, the less I want to drive unfamiliar areas at night. I joked to my friends that if it had started raining, even the motels with the big BIKERS WELCOME signs might have to be considered.
